Do I need to complete a self assessment tax return?
If you earn over £1,000 being self-employed or as a sole trader, or if you are a partner in a business, you must file a self assessment tax return for HMRC.
If you have any untaxed income, such as tips, commission, foreign income, rental income, or profits from investments, these must also be declared.
Is there a deadline for sending a self assessment tax return?
The annual deadlines for tax returns are as follows:

Paper return: 31st October
Online return: 31st January

If you miss the deadline you will receive a standard fine of £100, and will be charged £10 a day if you miss the deadline by over 3 months.
